With kilnformed or torchworked glass, the greatest difference between average and exceptional work is how much is done to the glass after it leaves the kiln or torch. Whether you work with cold glass, warm glass, or hot glass, this class will teach you how to use various coldworking techniques to elevate your work from passable to professional. You will learn how to safely and effectively use coldworking equipment for cutting, grinding, smoothing, and polishing glass and see the difference between working with silicon carbide as compared with diamonds. You will have a chance to try different manual coldworking tools as well as the most useful and most popular of all coldworking tools, a Wet Belt Sander.
Coldworking machines splash and spray water. Either wear old clothes or bring a smock or apron (we have extra aprons). If you have a small project you would like to work on, bring it to the class.
