Taught by a professional glass artisan, this class is intended to teach the basics of both fusing and slumping glass. It includes the following:
How different glass responds to heat in a kiln
Understanding compatibility and viscosity
Preparing and using a kiln
Creating firing schedules
Maintaining a kiln log
Preparing and using molds
Troubleshooting problems
Introduction to casting in a kiln
Each student will create their own 8" project to be fused then later slumped into a mold. All work will be with Spectrum COE 96 glass, but the class will include demonstrations of how other kinds of glass are used. All tools and materials are provided.
